Inaugurant par cet album leur collaboration avec harmonia mundi, Vasily Petrenko et le Royal Philharmonic Orchestra signent un programme aussi raffiné qu'inattendu avec deux chefs-d'oeuvre rares de 1913. De l'ironie mordante du chevalier shakespearien (Falstaff) à la méditation existentielle inspirée par Poe (Les Cloches), ces partitions littéraires prolongent avec éclat les sortilèges d'un romantisme finissant.
